I don’t know if one can simply learn to “do” History being as history has already been done. However you can learn about history and how to research the parts you want to know more about.

Learning about Pre-Confederation Canadian history for me was learning more about the truths behind Canada that many people don’t talk about and all the details that unless a historian or someone who lived in those times documented you would not ever hear about.

A few facts I learned about Pre-confederation Canada.

  • Canada did in fact have slavery
  • Indigenous peoples were forced to change their traditions and ways to match those of the Europeans that immigrated to Canada.
  • Men were the “bread-winners” women were the “home-makers”
  • once married the men had full control over every aspect of the womens life
  • many children died from disease, starvation, and the harsh climates
  • disease were brought from Europe that killed or made indigenous people seriously ill
